Justin LaReau, MD, recently completed the Barry-Roubaix, the world’s largest gravel road bike race!
What inspired him to take on the challenge?
“I always enjoy scheduling races in the spring. It helps me to have a goal to drive my training during the long Midwest winters.”
How did he prepare?
"Given the weather and surgery schedule, I did most of my foundational work on an indoor trainer. I would ride 40 miles before taking my kids to school, then do 20 more miles after dropping them off! It's important to cross train, so I mixed in strength training as well."
“I challenge myself to continually adapt and push my limits. Because of an orthopedic injury to my knee, I had to pause my Ironman triathlons—the running was too painful.”
